Tupu Garden Club Lead Anitha Pattery with seedlings from PVA Ko’anga
Still going strong since our first meeting in 2023, Tupu Garden Club run by Tupu Youth Librarian Anitha has been leading youth to focus on pest eradication through exciting competitions and beautifying their garden space. They are currently getting the garden ready for Autumn which PVA’s Ko’anga nursery has proudly supported them with organic seedlings such as brassicas and saladings. Ōtara-Papatoetoe Eco-Neighbourhoods funds snacks and treats for the kids in Tupu garden club and allows Anitha to keep their garden full with seedlings for the kids to learn and plant.
Aorere Kindergarten is planning a mural which we are excited to support! First is brainstorming with students, then a paid artist will get to work. Photos coming soon.
Rongoā workshop with Aroha Elderly funded by Ōtara-Papatoetoe Eco-Neighbourhoods
At Aroha Elderly, lead Amelia was able to hold a beautiful Rongoā workshop with 26 attendees, filled with learning, laughter, and lots of hands-on fun. Together, they created natural kawakawa soap and goat-based soap, exploring the healing properties of these ingredients. Aroha Elderly also made a soothing balm, giving everyone something special to take home. It was a relaxed, enjoyable morning where our kaumātua connected, shared stories, and learnt through doing — a true expression of hauora and whanaungatanga. All made possible with funding from Eco-neighbourhoods.
These are just some examples of eco-friendly initiatives you can recieve funding for in the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board area. Send us an email at 274econeighbourhoods@gmail.com if you have an idea you’d like to explore. ☺
Many thanks to Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board for supporting eco-neighbourhoods!
