Do you love books?
PVA’s Kathleen took the initiative to bring together some amazing groups.
One problem the Rotary club of Maungakiekie was facing was the amount of books leftover from Book fairs. And to deal with the leftovers, they had been arranging them to be “recycled waste”.
Knowing that we have many “little free libraries” across Auckland - Kathleen saw a way to hit 3 birds with one stone. Teaming with Robyn’s Fence Art & Little Free Libraries Auckland, together they were able to box up 84 banana boxes full of books leftover and delivered them all across Tāmaki.
Teamwork makes the dream work! Viaduct Little Library blessed with 45 banana boxes of books ready to be read. Well done Robyn and Kathleen.
The cost to dispose of the leftover books is oftentimes more than what the book fairs make; so if by diverting to supplying Little Free libraries, it helps the waste problem plus costs and supplies Little Free libraries problem which is a need for books. What a perfect way to give back to our communities through free, easily accessible books that are still in good nick, to be reused over and over.
Caring for Creation can sometimes look like learning how to better support one another. ☺ Awesome team work Rotary Club of Maungakiekie, Onehunga Book Fair and Little Free Libraries!
